Food Match: A wine for every meal, especially if served with dishes from its place of origin. It’s perfect for medium structure dishes including ragú, stews or meats roasted on embers.

" Morellino di Scansano expresses our personal interpretation of the Maremma region. In addition to the Sangiovese, we decided to use the Ciliegiolo another grape variety of the Maremma coast and a small percentage of Alicante. These three varieties complement each other".

" The Sangiovese gives structure and length, the Ciliegiolo (coming from a fifty year old vine) smoothness and the Alicante a gently spicy nuance.  Aromas of cherries and violets along with “wilder” scents come forward while on the palate character and length complete its taste". 

Soil: consisting of stone (galestro) for Sangiovese, clay-sandy for Ciliegiolo and Alicante

Harvest: hand-harvesting Time of year: (Ciliegiolo) 17th September (Sangiovese) 3rd and 4th October (Alicante) 20th September

Wine making process: pre-ferment maceration at 8°C for two days. Early fermentation in open top barriques and cement. Daily crushing by hand to extract aromas, colors and structure.

Barrel Maturation: 6 months, of which ½ in barriques and ½ in tonneau, followed by 3 months of bottle ageing.

Frank & Serafico have at their disposal grapes coming from different production areas of the Tuscan Maremma. With regard to the white grapes, these vineyards are inside the Maremma Nature Reserve and the countryside of Magliano in Toscana. The soil in these areas contains a high percentage of sand, which is ideal for giving aromas and freshness to the wine.

The red grapes come from Morellino di Scansano and Montecucco areas. These are stoney soils and the grapes acquire splendid ageing qualities. Our goal is to express the best of the terroirs of the Maremma, carefully producing wine using grapes having different features and potentialities.
