The Etna Rosso’s aromas hint of morello cherry, toast, grilled sage and leather, with flavours of strawberry, spices, clean tannins and crisp acidity.


Etna Rosso appeals with scents of morello cherry, toast, grilled sage and leather, while on the palate there are strawberry, cake spices, eucalyptus clean tannins and crisp acidity. The long finish closes on a licorice note.

Food Pairing: a light and spicy red, Etna Rosso wines pair well with a variety of dishes from vegetarian pasta to seafood to chicken and turkey, braised beef, grilled porkchops or spicier dishes like Indian or Mexican

The art of making of wine in the Tornatore family begun with the great grandfather of the current owners.  In 1910, grandfather Giuseppe built a house close to 2 hectares of vineyard to which he added 2 further hectares on the north facing side of Mount Etna, at 1000m above sea level.

The family has always had a good knowledge of the land surrounding Castiglione di Sicilia, and they accompanying topographers in their work expeditions.

There are now approximately 46 hectares of vineyards cultivated by the Azienda Tornatore, one of the largest in the area, with wine produced in some prestigious parcels of land such as Crasà, Pietrarizzo, Malpasso, Pietramarina, Torre Guarino, Carranco and Trimarchisa.

The quality standards are carefully monitored both on land and in the cellar and the choice of varietals is rigorously indigenous,  Nerello Mascalese and Nero Cappuccio for the reds, Carricante and Catarratto for the whites.

The land which produces the Tornatore Etna DOC wines is on the north facing side of the volcano, and certainly a direct product of the volcanic activity of Etna, composed of lava, ash with the addition of the sandy dark and fertile soils transported by the rain.  The climate is mild thanks to the effect of the nearby Nebrodi mountain.  The combination of unique soil, climate and wine makers expertise makes the north side of Etna as the ideal place to produce top quality and unique wines.

    We don’t often choose wine from Sicily – this one was a delight. Beautifully translucent and deceptively light in the mouth but with intense flavours, just as described. We had it with roasted veal and it was a perfect match. Highly recommended!
