Very much a fruit forward red, slightly warm even jammy berry flavours, but clean dry finish.

Cherry colour with a good purple tinge. Good versatile red, first drink of the evening but running through dinner during the week.

From the increasingly influential Carinena region of Spain, a hundred or so miles south west of Barcelona we have luckily come across Esteban Martin. Terrific modern winery with full flavoured, well ripened fruit. The vinyards are located in the foothills of the Iberian range, and though the climate is nearly continental the height above sea level and the cool Cierzo wind of the region keeps the grapes well balanced and spritely, with a special and distinctive character. The climate is dry and subject to extreme temperatures, making for interesting wines that are easy drinking and great for sharing with friends. These entry level wines are stylish and full of crunchy flavours.

From the producer’s website:

“Our winery combines the ancient tradition of D.O. Cariñena wines with the latest technology of today.  our own vieyards situated at the foot of the Iberian range, are influenced by a very special microclimate that provides the grapes with a special and distinctive character; at an altitude of 500 m above sea level and on dry stony fields.  A dry climate with extreme temperatures favored by Cierzo,a cold, dry wind”.
