The vineyards are found on the Gibellina hills, 100 -150 m a.s.l.  with a density of plants of 3800-4200 per hectare on fairly dark soils with a good content of organic matter.

WINEMAKING

Fermentation is conducted for 12-15 days at 24-30°C with daily pump-overs. The wine is matured in stainless steel tanks for 4 months and 4 months in French oak barrels.  Nero d' Avola is an indigenous red wine with important structure that shows the Mediterranean character.  Intense bouquet of hints of violets, spices, dried plum.

The vineyards of Tenute Orestiadi   stretch out between the gentle hills that open onto the Belice Valley and the sea of the ancient Selinunte.  The wines are produced in these lands, full of history and profoundly scarred in 1968 by an earthquake (6.3 Richter) that completely obliterated lives, identity and places.

The name of Tenute Orestiadi evokes distant myths and legends, like the one of Orestes which thanks to Aeschylus, twenty centuries ago, were brought to the stage.

In Sicily, the history of the windmills and wine are linked by the wind, an essential element for the health and quality of the grapes. Its presence helps mitigate the hot summer temperatures thus contributing to the incredible climatic variations essential for the life cycle of the vineyards.
