Food Match: Pasta, red meat and mature cheeses are perfect with this wine.

This Montepulciano D'Abruzzo DOC has amazing richness and extract, very powerful stuff, but totally in balance and harmonious. We can’t remember where we first read that this Montepulciano D'Abruzzo DOC Pasetti wine was screaming out “Drink me, oh drink me!” but it is still true even after dealing with them for ten years. Phenomenal purple colours and ripe rich flavours are evident in this Montepulciano D'Abruzzo DOC. If we were going to place it anywhere we’d say as fantastic Gigondas should be. But we think this might be because we love fantastic Gigondas and we think this is phenomenal as well.

Nick’s notes:

So another Bianca Trading producer and of course it’s another superb family operation who’ve been doing the business for so many generations. And they live in the foothills of the Abruzzi and its all about provenance.  They’ve slowly found the vineyards in the foothills of the wild Gran Sasso are the best, valley of Trino and Pescara. They do care, about all they do. They have changed their labelling, it looks so super stylish now, but the wine also they have continued to improve. The Abruzzi has the climate and the grapes to hit the heights and it can do gorgeous medium priced gear”.

From the producer’s website:

Pasetti winery was born in Francavilla, in the Adriatic coast, but over the years it has extended its vineyards in the inland parts of Abruzzo, finding the ideal location in Pescosansonesco (550 m AMSL) at the foot of Gran Sasso and in Capestrano (450 m AMSL) also known as “Tirino Valley””.

“Pescosansonesco, is an ancient historical Roman and Norman military garrison at the foot of the Gran Sasso massif, at 500 m above sea level. It is one of the most interesting wine regions because of its peculiar climatic conditions, featuring wide thermal ranges, both during the day and during the year, clayey and calcareous soil and a rocky but crumbly subsoil.”

Product Reviews

  • Julia and Roger says:

We are wine-lovers, without too much knowledge of wines! When Bianca and Juliusz encouraged us to adventure further into their vineyard, we were happy to comply. Amongst many fine drinks, we discovered a new red, which instantly became an old friend. Multepulciano-dabruzzo-Pasetti is now our favourite wine for dinner with friends, for summer- in- the- garden times and winter- by-the-fire times. We would ask anyone to try this wine and dare anyone not to love it!…Julia and Roger
