A Montepulciano d’Abruzzo DOC with thick plum scents, rounded rich fruit taste and elegant tannins.

The Montepulciano DOC Testarossa has a complex bouquet of red ripe fruit, blackberry and blueberries, tobacco spices, vanilla and cinnamon, a good, soft structure and long lasting persistence. Food Match: Compliments red meat, strong cheeses, wild boar, tripe and lamb. A Montepulciano d'Abruzzo DOC that never fails to impress. The Testarossa's eye-catching name and stunning bottle, with a leather label, opens up to thick plum scents, a rounded rich fruit taste and elegant tannins. It is made through a more rigorous harvesting, usually  two weeks later than the other Montepulciano, and from vines with a little more age. It follows the same fermentation in stainless steel, but barrique ageing is done in 20 litres casks as opposed to 60. So there is a little more oak, although more time for bottle age is allowed for the oak and the fruit to come together. Both go through natural malolactic fermentation, so adding to its impressive smoothness.

Producer’s notes-

“This Montepulciano d’Abruzzo is the result of an accurate selection of grapes coming from one of our grandfathers’ estates. Our grandfathers owned it since the beginning of the twentieth century and they were given the nickname of ” cocciarosce ” i.e. ginger haired heads, because of the colour of their hair. Many generations after them, Francesca was born with the same ginger hair of our grandfathers, and we dedicated this wine line to her, because this wine recalls our origins: with its strength, elegance and sincerity it expresses the heritage that has been handed down through love and passion for the wine”
