Pecorino DOP Pasetti

£13.95

  • Designation: DOP
  • Producer: Pasetti
  • Year: 2015
  • ABV: 13%
  • Grape: 100% Pecorino
  • Region: Abruzzo
  • Size: 75cl
Style:

Pale yellow, with a remarkably intense nose of citrus fruits, hints of hawthorn and orange blossom.  Full-bodied, rich, unctuous with a pleasing mineral complexity.

Food Match:  This wine matches with cold starters, risotto and cheese.

Nick's notes: "Spontaneous malolactic fermentation allows for a balancing of real zesty fruit, harvested in September to keep it full of zing. Pecorino can slip into unctuous spice a little too quickly, even with the sea breezes and the altitude of the vineyards. But it is a cracking wine, really lovely harmonious white, perfect partner to fish and cold meats. We will be bringing the Collecivetta which is their other Pecorino where they let the spice sing, with a good citrus balance of course, but that takes us into grills and game I think and we’re not there yet with this Pecorino. Which is all to the good, because we love its white currant fruit aromas and its beautiful refreshment. Lovely label too".

Pescosansonesco, is an ancient historical Roman and Norman military garrison at the foot of the Gran Sasso massif, at 500 m above sea level. It is one of the most interesting wine regions because of its peculiar climatic conditions, featuring wide thermal ranges, both during the day and during the year, clayey and calcareous soil and a rocky but crumbly subsoil.

Producer’s website notes:

“Pasetti winery was born in Francavilla, in the Adriatic coast, but over the years it has extended its vineyards in the inland parts of Abruzzo, finding the ideal location in Pescosansonesco (550 m AMSL) at the foot of Gran Sasso and in Capestrano (450 m AMSL) also known as “Tirino Valley”.
