Producer's notes:

"One of the greatest grape-varieties in the world, Nebbiolo is the prince of vine-growing around the town of Alba. And Langhe is the area’s most extensive d.o.c. appellation, encompassing as it does all the other local d.o.c. appellations, including three of the most thoroughbred Italian d.o.c.g. status wines: Barolo, Barbaresco and Roero.

For some years now, Monchiero Carbone have been selecting the Nebbiolo grapes grown on these hills that have the perfect fragrance and structure to produce a wine which can already express the characteristics of this great variety as early as the first year after the harvest. The grapes used to make “Regret” are fermented following the classic Piedmontese technique of maceration on the skins for at least 15 days.

After the fermentation, the wine is drawn off into barriques, where it undergoes a malolactic fermentation and remains for a period of maturation lasting around six months. It is then bottled late in spring, and spends several more months in the peace and quiet of our cellars before it is ready to be enjoyed by our clientele".

Two vineyards, two territories. Monbirone, with its hard and limy – almost chalky – soil, where just two drops of water are all it takes for the ground to become as slippery as soap; a vineyard that is as heavy to work and hard to mould as the Monchieros themselves, but is ideal for bestowing structure, power and grandeur on the barbera variety. And the light and dry, sandy soil of Tanon, which seems to have been specially designed to bring out all the fragrance and appeal of Arneis, and is as warm and friendly to work with as the Carbones.

The setting up of the Monchiero Carbone winery can be traced back to the many members of both families who earned their livelihood as vine-growers in the past. The Monchiero Carbone approach is quite different. They believe in keeping alive the local culture and history handed down to them through the generations, in seeking to raise awareness of the quality of small volume productions, in diversity, and in wines which are produced on single hillsides or even on single small plots of land, and are capable of stirring unique emotions.

Product Reviews

  • Jackie and Phil Coombe says:

This Nebbiolo is perfect . People of any age can enjoy this fine wine but as it the only wine that has been scientifically proven to enhance brain power it is especially good for those pensioners preoccupied by the worrisome affects of age on their memory. Well that’s our excuse anyway.
    Try it,you won’t forget it.
