£7.95

  • Designation: IGP
  • Producer: A. Vinicola Valle
  • Year: 2015
  • ABV: 12.5%

Style:

Smooth and persistent on the palate, full and round with hints of citrus fruit.

The Sant'Elisa Pinot Grigio delle Venezie is a clean fresh wine of bright straw colour with coppery hues.  Its complex aroma varies from floral notes of rose and acacia blossom, scents of apricot and citrus fruit, and hints of walnuts and spices.

Food Match: Wine for serving with rice and pasta dishes, white meat and fish. It also accompanies cured meats and egg dishes.

The white grapes of this Pinot Grigio, are harvested by hand in the vineyards on the eastern Friuli hills. The Pinot Grigio IGT delle Venezie is one of three varietals in the Sant'Elisa range of wines produced by three friends, whose common aim is being able to offer the best possible quality at the best possible price.

In 2008, three friends started to put together their dreams, skills and ideas to create something brand new.

Paolo Valle, oldest son of the iconic oenologist Luigi Valle, runs one of the most important wineries of the region, and contribute to the project with his productive location and grapes coming from two vineyards which lie in the best DOC appellations areas in Friuli: vigneto di Papa Eufemio IV (nearby Livio Felluga’s property and to the abbey of Rosazzo), DOC Colli Orientali del Friuli; and vigneto di Ruttars, whose last vines lie two yards away from the former Italian-Slovenian border.

Alessandro Gallici, rising star of the local oenology, put together the blends; he travelled to the UK many and many times, and know exactly what people needs in terms of quality, consistency, price and aromatic profile. Nonetheless, one of the most important British retailer buyers asked him to prepare some of their wines, which lie consistently in the top 5 positions of any of their best selling charts.

Franco Canciani, teammate and friend of Alessandro and Paolo for 15 years, brought to the liaison his knowledge of fermentations with indigenous yeasts (which extract the best aromatic profile from the must) coming from his long lasting training in this area, and his 10+ years expertise in sales and marketing for primary Italian wineries in more than 40 different countries. He deals with Vinexus for ages, and he’s proud to be personal friend of Nick Bielak for ten years.

Three friends, three different points of view but only one target: bring to the tables the best quality at an unbeatable price. They meet in Paolo’s place, which is painted on the label of the Santelisa wines, facing the Abbey of Rosazzo, and created this line of wines. So far three varietals: Pinot Grigio IGT delle Venezie; Refosco IGT delle Venezie; Friulano DOC Colli Orientali del Friuli, but more yet to come…

Product Reviews

  • Isobel says:

This is a lovely wine recommended by Bianca. We had it not too cold and it was delicious!

  • David Greenald says:

Over the last few years, I have been fortunate enough to sample many of the fine Italian wines sold by Bianca Trading, all of which have been of outstanding quality. Perhaps the reason is that the wines are all are from small producers – not a mass-produced bottle in sight!. A particular favourite of mine is the Sant’Elisa Pinot Grigio IGT delle Venezie, it is a wonderfully crisp and pleasantly fruity wine which I drink alongside many and varied fish dishes. The price is also astonishingly low for a wine of this quality. Highly recommended.
